Hattie and Durham Rainwater

Milton Durham Rainwater was the sixth of Sarah Jane Emerson and Giles R. Rainwater’s eight children. Born in Casey Co., KY in 1874, he married Hattie Vest 11 days after the turn of the 20th century. Hattie’s sister, Nancy Catherine, had married Durham’s older brother, John Silas Rainwater, six years prior in 1894.

Durham and Hattie moved to Pulaski Co., Kentucky shortly after their marriage. Most of their eleven children were born there. These are: Bertha, b. 1901; Ernest, b. 1903 and died in childhood; Clarence Clay, b. 1905; Cecil, b. 1908; Ulen, b. 1910; Ersie M., b. 1913; Hazel G., b. 1915; Vertis V., b. 1919; Ollie Ethridge, b. 1921; Grace Aldena, b. 1924; and Orville D., b. 1926.

Durham Rainwater died in 1944, followed by his wife in 1956. They are buried together in Bradley’s Pleasure Cemetery in Pulaski Co., Kentucky.
