Herbert F. Rainwater and wife, Julia Idella Gosser Rainwater

Herbert F. Rainwater was born 16 July 1882 in Casey Co., Kentucky. He was the son of Giles R. Rainwater (aka Welcome Giles Rainwater) and Sarah Jane Emmerson Rainwater. Herbert was the youngest of their eight children. The family were members of Mintonville Methodist Church.

Having grown up in a farming family, Herbert naturally took up farming himself. He married Julia Idella Gosser around 1905, and they produced their own family of eight. Their children were Alma Violet, born 13 Aug 1906; Alpha Mae, born 12 Apr 1908; Myrtle, born 19 May 1910; Winnie Dew, born 19 Nov 1911; Edward Vernon, born 4 Oct 1914; Mazie Maxine, born 22 Aug 1917; Beecher F., born 31 Jan 1920; and Richard Lee, born 15 Jul 1922.

On 18 July 1946, the Russell County News reported the attendence of their eight children and seventeen grandchildren at a family reunion, noting that “This was the first time in 15 years that all the family had been together at one time.”

Herbert Rainwater died on 1 March 1975; Julia Rainwater died three years later on 26 May 1960. They are buried in the cemetery of Mintonville Methodist Church, Mintonville, Kentucky.
